No compromise
I think compromise is essential to successful democratic governance. Work together, everyone gets something. People buy into the project because it will help them. Everyone's needs are considered.
However, "Justice and Unity" doesn't play that way. They play we-win-you-lose, all the time. They come to meetings with motions they want passed. When the rest of us try to amend them, or point out flaws, we are always voted down. Always. They never accept anything we offer. Instead, they appear irritated that we would offer anything at all. "Justice and Unity" runs the board like the Republicans ran the House of Representatives under Tom DeLay.
Because of their total unwillingness to work with the rest of the board members in good faith, it is very difficult for us to participate in the decision-making process. It is a very sad situation.
Another example of JU's refusal to compromise and play fair is the way they took ALL SIX officer positions on our board, even though their majority is only 13-11. The six officers currently are chair, vice-chair, secretary, treasurer, assistant treasurer, and assistant secretary. Despite the two secretaries' failure to provide minutes for a year now, JU refuses to let someone not in their camp do the job.
Their unwillingness to compromise and share power has hurt the effectiveness of the board. It is essential for a board representing diverse viewpoints as are represented in the WBAI membership not to act like this.
